How to Install DPM 2012 Beta

Microsoft comes with new DPM Product  which will be one of the very important role of Cloud Computing. In this article I am going to talk about how to install DPM 2012 Beta, before we go to hand on , I would like to talk about what the prerequisites , and System Requirements are

 

Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2

The Following prerequisites will be installed during the DPM 2010 Installation

.NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1 (SP1)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package
Windows PowerShell 2.0

Installation is pretty straight and easy

Here is the step by step dpm 2012 Beta Installation

First Insert the DVD or get the installation pack HERE

 

Click on Data Protection Manager

 

 

Accept the agreement and click on OK

One we Clock on Ok, DPM will install necessary prerequisites

 

Here is Wizard , Click on Next

 

If we have existing SQL server was installed , Select the Use an existing instance of SQL Server, In this case , what we have is Test environment and We will select the Use the dedicated instance of SQL Server

And Click o Check and Install

DPM 2012  is going to install the basic components.

 

 

 

At this point DPM Server requires reboot. Now are rebooting the server


 

Click on setup instillation file and click on Next and and When you are on Prerequisites Check Click on Check And Install again

 

DPM will install the basic components again

 

As you see that now Next Button is not greyed out anymore. Click on Next

 

 

This screen is about Product registration. After we register Click on Next

In this screen we are going to Select the installation pats of DPM files and DB files. This is a test environment , I just leave as it is, Click on Next

We are going to create SQL Service Account.  Enter the password and Confirm then Click on Next

This is optional for you, I select MS update and Click on Next

 

This part is also optional , I selected  Yes and Click on Next

 

In this step Click On install.

 

Installation has been started , Now is the time to go get cofee or my favorite is Turkish Black Tea

 

Instillation has been completed.  Click on Close

 

You will see the the DPM icon on your desktop , Go ahead and Click on it

    what do I have to do to use an existing SQL server 2008 R2 that on the same network as the server where DPM 2012 is being installed?

    this looks great, but I am tryig to use an existing instance of SQL server 2008 R2 that’s not installed on the same box where DPM 2012 is being installed and it’s just not installing and I can provide additional details if that helps.

      Hi MJ, DPM 2012 requires separate sql 2008 r2 instance and Standard\Enterprise SKU of SQL server 2008 R2 installed.
